Kenneth D. Stewart is an educator, guitarist, cellist, composer, producer, and ensemble director based in Durham, North Carolina.
His work moves between teaching, performance, composition, improvisation, recording and production, and interactive music technology. As an educator, he has taught applied instruments, music theory and aural skills, composition, improvisation, recording and production, and electronic and interactive music, while directing ensembles ranging from chamber groups to large multilevel string ensembles. As a working musician, he performs on guitar and cello in theatre, orchestral and chamber settings, popular and improvised music, and recording sessions. His creative and technological work explores the intersections of musical structure, computation, performance, and emerging technology.

Kenneth Stewart performs professionally on guitar and cello across theatre, chamber and orchestral music, popular and improvised music, recording sessions, and collaborative performance. His work frequently crosses conventional instrumental roles, from orchestral and chamber cello to electric and acoustic guitar, improvisation, arranging, and multi-instrument theatre performance. Recent work includes Theatre Raleigh’s Waitress, Groundhog Day at High Point Community Theatre, session and regional performance work, and substitute cello performances with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra.
